Ya Nui is a beautiful beach located on the southern end of Phuket Island, Thailand. It is a small beach compared to other popular beaches on the island, but it is known for its crystal-clear water and stunning views of nearby islands.

Ya Nui beach is a popular spot for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The water is calm and clear, which makes it perfect for underwater exploration. The beach is also surrounded by coral reefs, which are home to a variety of marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and even octopuses.

While Ya Nui beach is not as crowded as some of the other popular beaches on Phuket Island

Ratchaprapha Dam, also known as the Cheow Lan Dam, is a large hydroelectric dam located in Surat Thani province, southern Thailand. The dam was built in the 1980s to generate electricity for the region and to regulate the flow of the Klong Saeng River.

The Ratchaprapha Dam is also known for its stunning natural beauty. The dam is surrounded by lush forests and towering limestone cliffs, creating a scenic and peaceful atmosphere. The reservoir created by the dam is called the Cheow Lan Lake and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

Visitors to the Ratchaprapha Dam can take a boat tour of the Cheow Lan Lake to explore the scenic surroundings and spot wildlife, such as monkeys, birds, and fish. The lake is also a popular spot for kayaking, swimming, and fishing.

Near the dam, there is also a small village where visitors can learn about the local culture and sample traditional Thai food. The village also offers a variety of eco-tourism activities, such as hiking, camping, and bird watching.

During my December break in 2021, I was in Phang Nga on my road trip around the province.

I had seen there was this huge beautiful Limestone park and wanted to visit it. About mid morning was actually a good time to go and visit, still cool enough , but also busy enough. I say busy, but actually most of the visitors were locals doing their morning exercise and jogging.

As we walked around the main pathway through the park, it became apparent why the locals stayed within the main pathway. There, are we found out for ourselves, in due course, two very large troupes of Macaque monkeys. With the lack of tourists and people they have made larger areas of the park their home.

We did narrowly avoid a major skirmish between the two alpha males and their harems. Along with about 20 offspring. Nearly finding ourselves with our backs up against the locked railings at the other end of the park we stayed absolutely still and made no sudden movements or noise that might attract their attention.
Thankfully they all ran like a river of water towards the limestone cliffs and disappeared into the trees. We carefully made our way back , keeping to the main paths.

I did manage before that to get some interesting views of the cliffs, and the surrounding area, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Bang Neaw Dam reservoir project (constructed in 2006)
Another nice dam, inland from Kamala Beach is the Ban Bang Niew Reservoir, just south of the Anthem Wakeboard Park. This dam is larger than Bang Wad Dam I recently visited, and a whole lot emptier. This is due to an enlargement project due to finish next year to increase the Reservoirs capacity.
The vegetation on this run is particularly lush, and there is good shade. There are water views in quite a few view point spots.
A full 6k rive round this reservoir makes for a great days Photography.

Phuket is not just beaches and sea, beautiful green interior awaits those who like walking.

The new Khlong Katha Dam, also known as the Chalong Dam, was recently constructed to ease water supply shortages to the people in Chalong, Rawai, Kata and Karon, and as supplemental water holding for the nearby Bang Wad Dam.

The reservoir that was created by the new dam has erased some local roads, which, as of the time of this posting, still exist on Google Maps. These "Ghost Roads" can cause some confusion when navigating the area, but the new roads are clearly marked and driving is very safe.

The reservoir is actually somewhat scenic, and a popular place for cycling and jogging, as traffic is quite light.

It is also located very near to the beautiful Srisupharam Temple, with it's enormous, white Stupa, which is definitely worth a visit, all by itself.

The B480-million project is located near Srisupharam temple among the foothills at the end of Chao Fa West Rd Soi 69 and funded by the Royal Irrigation Department (RID).

The reservoir is up to 927 metres long and in parts up to 23m deep, with a maximum water storage capacity of 4.3 million cubic metres.The highest water capacity is 4.5 million cubic metres with emergency storage.

Comparably, it will supply less water than the other dams in Phuket. It is expected to supply only about 14,000 to 15,000 cubic metres of water per day, as it is the smallest of the reservoirs
