Street Art and Art Village Rawai- Phuket

So finally able to get out and abut again, after heavy monsoon rains. I wander around the off beach road in Rawai to find a collection of street art and the Art Village.

I think all types of street art are Art, so there will be a variety of "wall art shown in this video.

Phuket Art Village is a creative community tucked away down a small lane in Nai Harn at the southern end of Phuket. Home to a diverse and growing collection of home studios and galleries, the village was built from the ground up by the artists themselves.

The village is set on a small plot of land on Soi Naya 2 off Saiyuan Road, not far from Wilson's restaurant about two kilometres from Nai Harn beach. A large banyan tree shades a central courtyard, while the artists’ studios are set around the perimeter. The galleries are all open all day and visitors are welcome. There are usually at least one or two artists around to greet you, though you may need to wander around for a bit before you find them. Overall, the atmosphere is relaxed. friendly and welcoming.

The village artists, currently all Thai, work in a range of mediums, mostly contemporary works of art.

Friendship Beach street Art Gallery (Graffiti)

You know sometimes Street Art appears in places you least expect it! Like this building on Friendship Beach near Rawai, in Phuket. Or maybe not, maybe its the perfect location for artists to express their feelings of being there.

Either way I have here a collection of very talented artists, and where at all possible i have credited their work. I do a lot of research but as with all of this kind of visual art it is not always possible to find out everything about the piece or the artists.

A large part of this collection is from the local Artist Amann based here in Phuket. I find a fair few pieces of his work spread around the Phuket Area.

Steam Machines from Phuket

It is known that tin was discovered a couple of millennia ago in the Kathu district of Phuket and was mined until 1992 when the last mine on Phuket closed. Cassiterite (the principal ore of tin) was found in abundance in Phuket and the neighbouring Andaman coast (noteably from KhaoLak to TakuaPa).

In the Ministry of Primary Industries(which mining was) and Mines the campus which houses the current offices, has in it's grounds these old machines which were used during the mining in the 20th Century.

Fascinatingly even steam engines sit aside the giant wheels and cogs of these machines, their belts and pulleys long gone!

But it has been tastefully done and was a joy to see on my photographic journey around Phuket.
